The U.S. Food and Drug Administration posted a company recall announcement on August 24 for one lot of Vitruvias Therapeutics Thyroid Tablets, USP 30 mg. The company announcement, dated August 21, says testing confirmed that the product may be superpotent.
The voluntary nationwide recall applies only to lot 504950. The FDA notice lists NDC 69680-166-00 and an expiration date of September 30, 2026. It reports that 3,655 units were released and 1,955 were sold. The affected lot was distributed to Vitruvias direct accounts in the United States between January 31 and September 30, 2025.
The product is not a levothyroxine-only tablet. According to the FDA-posted announcement, Thyroid, USP is a natural preparation derived from porcine thyroid glands and contains both levothyroxine, or T4, and liothyronine, or T3. It is used in the treatment of hypothyroidism.
Superpotency means a product may contain more active thyroid hormone than intended. The company notice describes possible effects associated with excess thyroid hormone and identifies older adults, pregnant women, and infants as groups at greater risk. Those risk statements explain why the recall matters, but they do not establish that every tablet in the lot was superpotent or that every person who used the product experienced harm. Vitruvias reported no adverse events known to be related to the recall as of the announcement.
Where thyroid blood tests fit
The recall was triggered by product testing, not by a new recommendation about consumer blood testing. Still, the underlying issue is closely connected to the hormones measured in thyroid care.
The American Thyroid Association describes TSH as the usual initial blood test for evaluating thyroid function. TSH is produced by the pituitary gland and responds to the amount of thyroid hormone the body detects. A lower TSH can occur when circulating thyroid hormone is high, although a single result is not specific to a recalled product. Free T4 is commonly considered with TSH, and T3 testing can add context in selected cases.

The FDA-posted notice says Vitruvias is notifying wholesalers and arranging for destruction of the recalled product. It also says patients taking product from lot 504950 should not discontinue it without contacting their healthcare provider for guidance or a replacement prescription. That is the company's instruction as reproduced in the official notice, not an individualized recommendation from LabTestSuperstore.
What not to overread
This is not a recall of all thyroid tablets, all desiccated thyroid products, or all products containing levothyroxine or liothyronine. It covers one 30 mg product lot from one company. The announcement does not create a new diagnostic threshold, change the role of TSH testing, or show that blood testing can identify whether a particular bottle is affected.
The exact lot number, NDC, expiration date, product label, and official recall notice are the controlling identifiers. Symptoms alone cannot confirm product identity or establish that a recalled tablet caused a health change.
