STD testing questions

Sourced facts and practical considerations for comparing options.

What is included in the Basic and Expanded STD panels?

The Basic panel lists chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV-1/2. The Expanded panel lists chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, trichomoniasis, syphilis, and HIV-1/2. Always check the current product page before ordering because a partner can change its panel.

Does timing matter after a possible exposure?

It can. Detection timing varies by infection and test type, and no HIV test can detect infection immediately after exposure. Consider the specific test, the possible exposure date, symptoms, and whether follow-up testing may be appropriate. A healthcare provider can help interpret those factors.

Who can access results ordered through Quest?

Quest says results are available to the person tested, Quest Diagnostics, and PWNHealth clinician services involved with the purchase, subject to authorized or legally required disclosures. Review the current Quest and LabTestSuperstore privacy notices before ordering.

How much does STD testing cost without insurance?

Quest currently lists the Basic panel at $149 plus a $6 physician service fee and the Expanded panel at $282 plus a $6 physician service fee. Quest says these direct purchases are self-pay and it does not bill insurance. Prices, eligibility, and availability can change, so confirm the checkout total on Quest before ordering.
