What this test measures

This panel bundles four core tests into a single blood draw, covering the widest range of routine health markers available in a standard screening. The Complete Blood Count (CBC) evaluates red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, and hemoglobin to assess blood cell production and immune readiness. The Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP) reports 14 substances, including glucose, electrolytes, kidney waste products, and liver enzymes, to gauge organ function and metabolic balance.

The Lipid Panel measures total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides, providing a risk profile for cardiovascular disease. Finally, the Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) test evaluates how well the pituitary gland is directing the thyroid to produce thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), the hormones that regulate the body's metabolic rate. Taken together, these four tests screen blood health, organ performance, heart disease risk, and thyroid activity, making the panel well suited for annual wellness checks and early detection of developing conditions.

Who should consider this test

You might consider this test if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Individuals seeking a comprehensive annual health screening to establish baseline values
  • Those with family history of heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, or thyroid disorders
  • People experiencing unexplained symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, weight changes, or mood alterations
  • Adults over 40 who want to monitor multiple health markers as part of preventive care
  • Individuals managing existing health conditions who need regular monitoring of multiple body systems
  • Those starting new medications that may affect blood counts, liver, kidney, or heart health

What to expect

Preparation

You should not eat or drink for at least 8 hours before the test. This fasting requirement is necessary for accurate glucose and lipid measurements. Water is permitted during the fasting period. Some medications may affect results, so inform the lab if taking thyroid medications, blood thinners, or supplements.

Sample Type

Blood drawn from a vein in the arm using a standard venipuncture technique

Collection

A trained phlebotomist will insert a needle into a vein in your arm to collect blood samples in multiple tubes. The process typically takes 5-10 minutes with minimal discomfort.

Turnaround

Results are typically available within 1-2 business days and will be accessible through your online portal or provided by your healthcare provider

Understanding your results

Because this panel generates dozens of individual values, the most productive way to read results is by looking at how the numbers relate to each other rather than fixating on any single measurement. Each value comes with its own reference range, and minor deviations are common, especially when influenced by factors like age, sex, hydration, or recent meals. A result that sits slightly outside the expected range does not automatically signal disease; healthcare providers assess the overall pattern and clinical context before recommending further evaluation or monitoring.

PopulationReference RangeNotes
Adult MalesHemoglobin: 14-17.5 g/dL, Total Cholesterol: <200 mg/dL, TSH: 0.4-4.0 mIU/LMale reference ranges for key markers in the panel
Adult FemalesHemoglobin: 12.3-15.3 g/dL, Total Cholesterol: <200 mg/dL, TSH: 0.4-4.0 mIU/LFemale reference ranges for key markers in the panel
Adults (Both Sexes)Glucose: 70-99 mg/dL (fasting), WBC: 4,300-10,800 cells/mcL, LDL: <100 mg/dLGeneral adult ranges for metabolic and cardiovascular markers

Reference ranges shown are general guidelines. Your lab report will include the specific reference range used by the laboratory that processed your sample, which is the authoritative range for interpreting your results.

What does a “Low” result mean?

Low values in various components may have different implications. A low red blood cell or hemoglobin count typically indicates anemia (low blood). Anemia, typically seen as low hemoglobin or low hematocrit on the complete blood count, is a sign of an underlying disease and it is not a disease itself. Most of the time, low TSH levels indicate hyperthyroidism. Low blood sugar may suggest hypoglycemia or certain metabolic disorders, while low protein levels could indicate nutritional deficiency or liver dysfunction. Low HDL cholesterol may increase cardiovascular disease risk.

What does a “High” result mean?

Elevated results in different components may suggest various conditions. If any of the CMP results are out of the range given by the lab, it could indicate: Liver disease. Kidney disease. Diabetes. In general, higher-than-normal levels of total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides and lower-than-normal levels of HDL can increase your risk of cardiovascular disease. High TSH levels indicate hypothyroidism. People develop hypothyroidism when their thyroid produces low levels of hormones. High white blood cell counts may indicate infection or inflammation, while elevated liver enzymes could suggest liver stress or damage.
